Le Bon Choix is well known for its delectable cakes, French inspired pastries and beautifully crafted breads. The design concept for this retail space focused on the reflection of the beauty and quality of the products sold within the patisserie whilst encasing a subtle French nostalgia through modern accents. Situated in the heart of the Gold Coast within the existing conditions of the site to achieve a modern yet unique outcome whilst maintaining the iconic brand and image of the Le Bon Choix patisserie. The most notable element retained was the pre-existing art deco inspired structure portrayed along the shopfront. This structure was refinished in a brass coloured coating and black render finish. Feature sliding doors with brass metal detailing were developed to carry the angled shapes within the shopfront into the interior space. Angled brass finished frames were also introduced above the seating booths, counter and external seating area to tie in with the angled design.

The design intent was to showcase the product, brand and packaging of Le Bon Choix throughout each key zone within the patisserie whilst providing a practical solution for food preparation and services that was visually appealing. The space included a cake display window, chocolate display counter, central display counter as well as a gallery viewing kitchen. The chocolate display counter was complemented with a feature niche wall behind to store and display the packaging for the delectable treats. Key areas were highlighted with feature pendant lighting, wall lighting and recessed led lighting. The finishes used to tie the space together included dark painted timbers, bespoke chevron feature tiles, calacatta floor tiles, dark textured terrazzo look corian, charcoal and brass metals and luxurious textured upholsteries. The darker finishes were balanced with light paint finishes and carefully considered lighting selections to achieve a look that was both lustrous and moody.
